Palazzo Sortino Trono is among the most beautiful buildings in Ibla. A UNESCO World Heritage site, it has a long balcony on the main façade. Admire the effect of intertwining pitch stone and limestone on the front.
The limestone dances harmoniously with the pitch stone on the facades of Palazzo Sortino Trono, a monument declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Once in Ragusa Ibla, reach Piazza della Repubblica and you’ll see the magnificent façade of the noble palace that arrogantly overlooks the open space in front of it. It has a long balcony, which we call cianu re Signuri, (open space of the Lords). You can easily get to it from the steep staircase that is right beside it.
We were talking about the limestone and pitch stone: they intertwine on the balcony cornices, and on the ledges, creating an elegant and refined chromatic effect that will win you over at first glance. Palazzo Sortino Trono was built at the end of the eighteenth century by Don Ignazio Sortino Trono, who had some family houses built in this area put together to build the family palace. It is much admired today as it was then!
