The fine Baroque of Palazzo della Cancelleria. A UNESCO World Heritage site, it is assumed it was once wider and more lavish. Today, it remains one of the most beautiful palaces in Ragusa Ibla.
The fact that the tympanum is not aligned with the façade suggests that it underwent some modification, but it remains one of the most beautiful Baroque palaces in Ragusa Ibla.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Palazzo della Cancelleria takes its name from the offices of the Municipal Chancellery that were housed here in the second half of the nineteenth century. In fact, the palace dates back to the first half of the eighteenth century, built by the Nicastro family, and then bought by the Council.
Remember to admire the tribune on the main façade. It is the prized feature of the building. You’ll see a fairly particular facade: the features as they are currently placed, seem to confirm the hypothesis of a somewhat modified project. There is an archway, a staircase, an imposing gate, and balconies adorned with corbels and cornices. Surely once it must have been much wider and more sumptuous: today it is as enchanting as ever.
