Palazzo Battaglia in Ibla is one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Ragusa. It is loved for its elegance and originality. A must see!
On your discovery of Ragusa Ibla, you must stop at Palazzo Battaglia, one of the 18 UNESCO World Heritage sites of the city. It belonged to the Battaglia family: it was Don Grandonio, baron of Torrevecchia, who wanted to build it in 1724, entrusting Giuseppe Recupero from Acireale with its construction and Carmelo Cultraro, together with his son Desiderio, with the main façade in via Orfanotrofio, next to the church of SS. Annunziata. The building also has a second entrance in via Chiaramonte, along via del Mercato, added a few years later following structural expansion by the master builders Silvestro Di Natale and Vincenzo Sbezzi. To them we owe the elegant harmony between the pre-existing style and some more original touches that make Palazzo Battaglia one of the most particular and elegant buildings in the Ibla.
