A World Heritage Site, and among the oldest churches in Ragusa Ibla, San Filipppo Neri still preserves its eighteenth-century floor. Straightaway, it appeals from the outside, with its precious door and intimate churchyard.

It still has its original eighteenth-century floor, for this reason it is one of the oldest churches in Ragusa Ibla. We’re talking about San Filippo Neri, a small church in the Baroque district, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Extremely old – it dates back to 1636 thanks to the interest of one of the most important families of Ragusa, the Schininà, and upon the initiative of the Confraternity dedicated to the saint –, the church of San Filippo Neri was spared by the 1693 earthquake: that's why it’s still possible to admire the beautiful white limestone floor with geometric pitch stone inlays. It is thought that during the eighteenth century it was enlarged through several interventions: the sides were elevated, the large windows were opened up, and the wooden ceiling was replaced with a vault. You’ll like it at the very first glance: the entrance consists of a small churchyard and a precious door, framed by two columns.

Books, music, but also good food, theatre, and showsRagusa offers quality events all year round that attract thousands of visitors from all over Sicily and beyond. Tourists who are in the city in those days are fascinated by the great human warmth and cultural richness that the city gives off.

There are numerous summer events, but also winter in Ragusa is livened up by various theatre and music festivals: Melodica, Ibla Classica International for music; the season at the Donnafugata Theatre and Palchi Diversi (Different Stages) for the theatre (the latter moves to the beautiful backdrop of the Castle of Donnafugata for the summer version Palchi Diversi Estate al castello), to name but a few.
