Built at the end of the nineteenth century, Villa Margherita was once a central place for city life. In the post-war period it even had an open-air dance floor, known as ‘Washington’. This was followed by a stadium where the well-known Iblean basketball team, Virtus Ragusa, played, and also some tennis courts. Today, the sports facilities have been demolished and converted into the Giovanni Paolo II Park.
