The ‘green lung’ of Ragusa Ibla – a must if you want to stop, rest, and enjoy the wonderful landscape of the Hyblaean Mountains and the valley of the River Irminio. The Giardino Ibleo is a treasure trove of native Mediterranean plants, next to exotic, aquatic species, and of important monuments, in fact it houses three churches: the church of San Domenico or church of San Vincenzo Ferreri, the church of the Cappuccini with the precious Triptych by Pietro Novelli, and the church of San Giacomo.

It was built in 1858 upon the initiative of three prominent men of the time: Carmelo Arezzo of Trifiletti, Emanuele La Rocca Impellizzeri of the San Filippo, and Giuseppe Maggiore, Marquis of Santa Barbara. The wonderful central avenue was used for carriages and flanked by the avenue of the columns, which was reserved instead for pedestrians. Even today you can walk along it, enjoying the coolness and perfumed scents of the many plants, and rest on one of the many benches in the shade of the tall palm trees. 

The avenue takes you to the heart of the villa, where there’s a children's playground, the memorial to those who died in the Great War, and then, along the edge, the elegant balcony from which you can admire the wonderful panorama. Finally, there are the archaeological excavations of Ragusa Ibla at the rear. Before entering the Giardino Ibleo, on the right you will find the ancient gateway of San Giorgio, the only remnant of the old church of San Giorgio destroyed by the 1693 earthquake.
