It only seats 100, which makes it one of the smallest theatres in Europe. The Teatro Donnafugata in Ragusa Ibla, from the first half of the nineteenth century, is a valuable Baroque treasure.
Only 100 seats in this Baroque treasure from the first half of the nineteenth century, one of the smallest theatres in Europe and awarded the prestigious Eurispes prize "Le cento eccellenze italiane” (A hundred Italian excellences) in 2006.
We are at the Teatro Donnafugata, a stone’s throw away from the cathedral of San Giorgio in Ragusa Ibla. A theatre with perfect acoustics – microphones are not allowed – subjected to lengthy restoration work completed in 2004 that brought the shine back to the colours and decorations on the walls and ceiling. Today it is the beating heart of the palace that houses it, Palazzo Donnafugata. Entrusted to the management of the owners themselves, it hosts festivals, art exhibitions and conferences. A must visit.
